Thesis Title: Principled Compromise in Non-Ideal Theorizing about Justice

Michael Sullivan

About

I am a doctoral candidate in the philosophy department at Emory University.  My areas of specialization are social and political philosophy and ethics.  I also have competencies in bioethics, philosophy of law and feminist philosophy.  I am especially interested in efforts by contemporary philosophers to understand and examine critically the Kantian Enlightenment tradition.

I was born and reared in Cleveland, Ohio, and I received my B.A. in philosophy from Miami University of Ohio in May 2008.  If you ever find yourself in Northeast Ohio, I highly recommend checking out one of the many trails, gorges, covered bridges, or historic buildings in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

When not studying and doing philosophy, I enjoy running competitively, hiking, cycling, and playing chess.  I am a member of the Atlanta Track Club Women’s Competitive Team and my race PRs include the 2010 Twin Cities Marathon (3:09:00), the 2010 Atlanta Half Marathon (1:27:58), the 2010 Peachtree 10K Road Race (38:01), and the 2010 Haunted Hustle Cross Country 5K (18:23).  All this running means I spend a lot of time eating.  I often share my gustatory experiences at http://www.kswiss.yelp.com.
