Janelle Peters received her BA in Religion and Literatures of the World from the University of California, San Diego (2003), where she was awarded High Honors for her undergraduate thesis on the Dead Sea Scrolls.  She continued her studies with a Jacob K. Javits Fellowship (2004-8) at the University of Chicago (MA, 2005) and at Emory University (PhD, 2012), where she also received an Arts and Sciences Fellowship (2008-12).  Her paper "Angelology and Anthropology in the Gospel of Matthew" won the Kenneth Willis Clark Award for best student paper at the Southeastern Society of Biblical Literature meeting (2007).  Her dissertation "Leveling the Playing Field: Egalitarian Veils and Athletic Metaphors in 1 Corinthians" is being advised by an interdisciplinary committee: Kevin Corrigan (Patristics), Hans-Josef Klauck (New Testament), Vernon Robbins (New Testament), and Eric Varner (Art History).
